CHRIST ON THE MOUNTAINSIDE (JUNE 2007)

This was a very quickly done piece that came to me during the hot summer of 2007. I had a inspiration to visit the concept of prayer and solitude. I remembered the scriptures that always referred to Jesus going off to pray by himself. I also think about the old testament passage that says, "Be still, and know that I am God."

Quiet, serious alone time with God is very important in a person's faith walk. This is yet another example set by Christ for us to follow while here on the earth. Whether symbolic or literal, we all need to find our own "mountainside" to have a good chat with the creator. More importantly, we need to listen to what He wants to say to us while we're there.

The piece is coloured pencil on watercolour paper.

ON THE ROAD

This is a painting that I created for the person (Joyce Rae) who designed my official website, "Art With A Message." I didn't have any money to pay her for it, so, she said she'd do it for an original piece of art. This is the final result. I completed it July 2007. It's very close to the style and colours I used for my oil painting "Season of Seclusion." I don't do oils much any more--this one I did in acrylic paint.

I'd say most of this image is pretty simple & self explanitory. The image of Christ walking next to the girl on the road is taken from the description of Him found in Revelation. The Scriptures I based it on are Zephaniah 3:17, Psalm 16:7-8, Deut. 5:32-33, Proverbs 4:18, and Acts 2:28.

MY STUDIO: THE BLUE ELF QUEEN

This is a look into Patrick's studio of mystery. Everybody say... OOOOOOOOOOOHHHH. Ahem....

This is a portion of a huge fantasy mural I did on my studio walls. It was a very fun project to do, as I love the world of fantasy creatures-- fairies, elves, dragons, etc., etc. It comes from my Celtic background I guess. The mural spans two walls, a window shade, part of the floor and part of my ceiling. It took about 2 months to complete and boy were my arms tired!!!

Seen here in the picture is my blue elf queen. Next to her is a dark moss covered tree. The branches spread over your head on the ceiling. There's also a large cave on the other wall with a stream painted on the floor. I also have artificial grass and vines and fantasy statues in various places for effect. Add to that a babbling brook nature CD, which I often have playing in the background, and I have a perfect environment to create and study. Pretty nice when it's too nasty to go outside!

LOCAL CHRISTIAN MUSIC IN VIRGINIA

This is an absolutely awesome Christian band called (as you can see on the CD cover here) "OFFERING." The lead singer's name is Jeanine Guidry--one of the sweetest and most gracious people you'll ever meet. Under her lead, the music they produce is truly wonderful and inspiring. They perform their own original compositions as well as some well known praise and worship music.

You can get a schedule of their appearances as well as listen to samples of their music. You can also order their CDs there. They even have a great christmas CD which I would highly recommend!!!!!

Crucifixion # 1 (Acrylic and sand on canvas) SOLD. I miss having this piece in my posession. It's a very heavily textured painting and a close up shot of Christ's face upon His death on the cross. I used unusual colors and textures to express the pain and extremeness of the event. It seems very abstract at first glance. But as you stand back and think about the title, usually most people can see the image. (It's funny...one person actually thought it looked like a mug of rootbeer! I guess they must've been thirsty.)

Originally I was going to use this blogger thing to simply advertise my own Christian artwork and website. By the way, I'm still going to do that--just later. Right now I thought I'd take this opportunity to write and use this site for something else...

I had the idea of communicating with all the other CREATIVE PEOPLE out there in this vast world. I have a question for you: DO YOU SERVE GOD WITH YOUR CREATIVITY???? Up until a few years ago my own answer would have been a resounding NO. I can honestly say I spent most of my time serving myself and the devil with it. I wasted my time, imagination, supplies and abilities. My life and my creativive expressions started changing when I accepted Christ in my life. God gave my life and my art purpose! I used to be a more stereotypical "depressed artist type" before. If I'd stayed on that path much longer I probably would've ended my life much like other artists have. God had a much better plan for my life and skills. I had to turn my life over to Him to start living this truth.

What all of us have to realize is that everything we have is a gift from God. Whether you paint, sing, play music, etc. --the skill came from him. THINK ABOUT THIS IF YOU'RE A SINGER... NOT ONLY THE ABILITY TO SING CAME FROM GOD, YOUR LUNGS AND THE AIR YOU FILL THEM WITH CAME FROM HIM TOO!!! Think about the same thing if you do anything else creative. Not only the ability came from him, but the means to use it too!!!!! It's not a difficult concept to process.

God created us to love and serve Him with everything we have and do. He also called us to love and serve others in that way. We creative creatures weren't meant to be moody, isolated, dysfunctional, miserable, depressed, self-serving, loner wierdos!!!! (Although a little bit o' quirkiness ain't such a bad thing!!! It's OK to be different!!!) I challenge you to be open to the idea of renewing your minds to finding and following God's purpose for what you do. You'll be happier and more peaceful in life.

Ok, one other thing I'm going to do here is give you a little bit of God's Word on this subject. I was pretty touched and amazed the first time I read this and I hope you will be too. I'm just going to give you a piece of this part of Scripture. The rest you'll have to go and read yourself. This is from EXODUS 35 and it's during the time of the building of God's Holy Tabernacle. VERSE 10---All who are skilled among you are to come and make everything the Lord has commanded. VERSE 30 through 33 ---Then Moses said to the Israelites," See, the Lord has chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and he has filled them with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability, and knowledge in all kinds of crafts----to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood and to engage in all kinds of artistic craftsmanship."
